FREDERICTON (GNB) – In his report tabled today at the legislative assembly, auditor general Paul Martin discussed the implementation rates of recommendations pertaining to prior years’ audits.

Martin said the followup on prior years’ audit recommendations serves as an important tool for the public accounts committee and the public. This report includes followup for 2019 to 2021 performance audit recommendations.

The auditor general reviewed select 2019 audits and concluded that 55 per cent of his recommendations had been implemented. Martin noted that only 25 per cent of recommendations for improvements to the Department of Health, pertaining to medicare cards, have been implemented, while the Department of Finance and Treasury Board implemented all recommendations related to overdue property tax for collections and forgiveness.

Departments reported their own implementation status for 2020 and 2021 audit recommendations and reported an implementation rate of 63 per cent. The auditor general will work to evaluate the reported implementation.

The followup audit report is available online.
